Happy Year of the Tiger!!

Since my parents are not around to make me my favorite "lor bak go" this year, I figured I could make it! Mind you I've only seen my dad made it every year plus I don't have the family recipe with me, so I wasn't sure how to do it. I was determined though, and with the help of the Internet I found various recipes and after "studying" them I kinda made up my own that works with the ingredients I have..kee kee...

Taddaaa!! This is the finished product. Next time I gotta add more water I think, it was a bit stiff. Oh, and a bit more salt, it was kinda bland...overall ok la for the first trial, luckily it was edible! Now I feel much better about this Chinese New year :)

Hoping that you'll have a wonderful year of the tiger!

Vancouver 2010

I'm kinda depressed when everyone is talking about the Olympics coming up in a day.

When Vancouver was chosen to be the host city of the Games in July 2003, I remember thinking in my head, "OMG I get to experience the Olympics in my hometown!!" I also remember looking up for jobs with the VANOC...7 years late, where am I? I'm not even in Vancouver anymore.

The Games is like an event that I can only learn about from the screen of my computer and on the news. It's supposed to be so close but it feels so so far!

I want to be here for the games, but I can't. What am I to do???

Calgary Weather Update II

As a follow up to yesterday's post, I thought I'd also show you this:
Dun worry peeps, it's not like this everyday. In fact, I recall this was taken last November, one of the coldest week this winter. I think it did went down to -30c for a week in December but (luckily) I was not in town to "enjoy" it.

What gets me is why the local train stations (C-Train) are all in the outdoor, as you can see in the background of this pic...

Calgary Weather Update

While I've been hearing news every day about how warm it is in Vancouver this year, I thought I would give ya a bit of weather update in Calgary.

The past week has been quite foggy, not usual Calgary weather I've been told. I enjoy it though 'cuz it doesn't feel as dry. The fog also reminds me of SFU so it's all good.

Something magical happens when you combine the fog with negative-digit temperature (at least I think it's magical), the result is this:

Everything, I mean everything, is covered in this white frosty icy magic overnight!!

It's like the world has been dusted with powder sugar...ooh so magical.

This lasted for a few days so I was feeling oh-so-Christmasy the entire weekend, it was awesome and I was in a really good mood until I realized the weekend was coming to an end.

I was able to catch the last glimpse of this wonderness this morning from my office. Here's the pix from my office at 8am. Once the sun came out everything began to melt. By the afternoon when I took a walk outside things were kinda brown and dry again...

I Have to say though, I'm kinda tired of this cold weather. Chinooks I'm ready for your visit :)

Is it Feb already?

Honestly I did not know where January of 2010 went and this weekend marks mid-Feb already!

How I wish I was in Vancouver right about now 'cuz the Olympics is happening in less than 5 days...I wonder what I would be doing if I was in Vancouver now. Gals in Vancouver, are you all Olympic-crazed? Tell me about the festivities around town and make me envious ~k!?

Well, to make you a bit envious of me, next Monday will be FAMILY DAY in Alberta and what does that mean? A day off, woooohoooo!!! Not that I'll be doing much since the Mr. has to study for his certification exam in May, it's nice to have a break between Jan and April nonetheless.

I'd say, they should make the 2nd Monday of Feb in Vancouver the "Vancouver Olympics Day" from now on !! Let's start a partition for this...oops I meant to say petition...
