I just discovered upon going into my SFU alumni e-mail tonight that all of the alumni e-mails from SFU will be deleted as of Dec 15th and everyone who wish to use this @alumni.ca e-mail as a re-directed service needs to ACT IMMEDIATELY.
This change forced me to look at my e-mail history since 2003 (yes since I graduated!) and decide which of the 10,000,000,000 e-mails to keep! The worse part is that the webmail interface is soooo difficult to forward, I have to go into individual messages and then click to forward....errrrrrrrrr...
I ended up spending lots of time reading back about happened in the past years as supposed to doing the actual forwarding.
There were job applications, job offers, refusals, lost friends, gatherings etc...
Here goes 6 years of history, ba-bye!!
So, if you haven't done this already, log on to your @alumni.ca e-mail at webmail.sfu.ca and complete the e-mail re-directing process if you want to keep your @alumni.ca addy :)

Garage update
Work has finally begun for our garage!
Mr. Lui has been busy looking for options to build our garage in the summer. Originally we had budgeted $25K for it but thought it would be wonderful if we could find a cheaper alternative.
Given how (not) handy my Mr. is in construction, he came up the idea of building it ourselves...well, it would be nice only if we know how to do it! So we wiki, google, youtube it and figured it wasn't too difficult at all. I mean, building 4 walls, installing a window that can't be opened, a door, an automatic garage door, and then slab the roof on can't be that hard, right? Also, there are lots of DIY packages at Home Depot or others where you can get everything you need. We really thought we can do it, plus we can enjoy a saving of a couple thousand dollars and learn lots in this process.
But, even though the work itself isn't that hard, but we only know a limited number of handy friends and also considered the liability involved, we crossed this idea off. Wouldn't wanna lose any friend here by breaking their legs!
Luckily Mr. Lui and I are so blessed to know an Auntie who's in construction and she agreed to take on the project at a super discount!!! We're still spending a big chunk of $$ for the garage, but at the end of the day, at least we know that the project is taken care of by someone we know.
She also told us a lot of details that other contractors didn't quote us. We're in luck, as always.
Last last weekend when the guys came over to flatten the backyard in preparation for laying the concrete. Notice there was snow!
Should have taken a picture of the "real" before...well, our backyard doesn't have much other than weed, so I was more than happy that they're all gone now:)
This Sunday another group of people came by and built a frame for the garage. Yep, this weekend was really warm and all of the snow has melted so there were able to get going. We're totally getting there :)

Memories
Do you remember this song?
Samson took a random CD for me to listen to while I cooked today, and it was the Mavis Fan CD.
Listening to the song brought back memories that seemed so far ago but are so dear to me. I remember crying while listening to this song, but couldn't quite figure out when this happened. Was it Grade 12? Couldn't be after I met Samson, 'cuz this song seemed way older than that.
So, I google it and finally remember it was about grade 10 or 11 when I was singing to this song, amongst other like this one. OMG, I remember this karaoke!
Can't believe it's that long ago...I think I was crying about my imaginary bf back then...hahahahahaaaaaa....

As predicted, I'm running out of things to write about...
So, here are a few photos from the Thanksgiving dinner :)
Here's the turkey. I'm definitely gonna buy fresh next year, frozen just doesn't taste as good. Probably gonna get a "younger" (smaller) one next time around as well.

Photo time!
Here's a follow up from yesterday's post.
This is what I saw when I got in the car yesterday morning at 7:15am. Really!??! It really didn't feel that cold.
Here's the bottle of water...I mean ice. See the snow outside? Somehow we always get more snow than the rest of the city 'cuz we live in NW.
And lastly, here's a view from my office :) I'm on the 7th floor and I can see quite a distance. The two tall buildings you see are the SAIT residences. Notice how there's no one outside? 'Cuz it is COOOOOLD...the blue sky is so deceiving.
It's nice to be spending the Thanksgiving long weekend with my "new family". Thanksgiving is such a good time to reflect on the blessings we have in the past year. So many good things have happened and I truly feel blessed. What am I doing in return? I'm making turkey this year to continue the tradition we had with the gangs in Vancouver. Let's hope that I dun leave a bag of giblets as stuffing....whoops!

Yay it's Friday! The cool thing about today is I get to leave the office early at 3pm, they do that here for long weekends apparently. Actually I'm still in the office as we speak because I'm waiting for Mr. Lui to pick me up.
It is FREEZING out, I mean it. It is negative 8 celsius outside right now, in the middle of the day. And this is only the first week of October!
I wish I have my camera here to show you what it's like in Calgary now. I took a few pictures of the snow outside our place and the frozen bottle of water that we left in the car the other day. I have never freeze water in my car before.
If our fridge ever breaks down, I'll just put the raw chicken and meat in the backyard. Or, even better, I should start doing this in the winter to save a few bucks on our energy bill!!! That's a contribution to a greener environment, right?

3 weeks later...
I could win an award for being lazy, if you know what I mean...I do have excuses for not posting but really I should just put in a few minutes of my day to do these updates. This is in my calendar now, let's see again when my next posting will be...kee...sorry for those who have been clicking for updates!
Last Friday was my official 3 weeks of work, wohoo! The co-workers at my place are really friendly and I'm lucky that we get along 'cuz it'll be hard having difficult people around you in cubicle-land.
Yep, I'm back in the cubicle-land so I have less privacy. The good thing is I'm not seeing as many students in person as many CGA students are "professionals" and they work during in the day.
I also have another lady who takes care of phone calls and e-mails from our published line/e-mail and shoots them over to me only when she cannot answer specific questions. Sweeeeet!!! Well, I'm actually learning a lot of student service policies and program info from her, and with her sitting right next to me, that helps.
The rest of the job is not worth mentioning really. All the regular stuff you can imagine...I don't get to travel at all in this position, recruitment/marketing/promotion is something that I miss.
Now, on to somethin' more interesting. I was back in Vancouver for the Labour Day long weekend to celebrate Steph & Nindi's wedding. What's so cool about this wedding is that I got to wear a saree, something I loong for forever to wear but never got a chance to. I mean, wearing one at my own wedding would not make much sense.
Not to mention that my gals are also "east indian fans" so we all played a bit of dress-up! The 2-day wedding was a lot of fun! We fit right in with the East Indian crowd and made Steph proud :)

New place, new job
Initially I didn't think (wish) I was gonna re-enter the work force so soon, but, what the heck! Being a full-time housewife isn't all that fun, especially when you don't have a car to get around in the day. It's not so bad now 'cuz I can take walks to the community market, and I've also learned my way to take the bus and C-Train to nearby malls. I quite enjoyed my last month or so of this lifestyle actually, but when the winter hits, I can foresee that being stuck at home will be the reality if I'm not employed. I'm not ready to become a "yellow face old lady" just yet.
Few weeks back I decided to look online for jobs that suits my experience. Before I knew it I was called in for an interview, and then this Monday I got a call if I could start working ASAP.
Oh no, dilemma!
If I take the offer:
I'll get to know more people
I'll have steady earning, we can hopefully pay off our debt sooner
I'll have excuse not to cook dinners
If I don't:
I'll have tons of free time
I'll have tons of free time
I can wait for the next better offer to come, since I've applied to a few other positions
I guess the decision was quite clear (thanks Ada and Eva for backing me up). I accepted the offer!
Next Friday, I'll be working for CGA Partnerships in the Business School of SAIT!
Yay I get to wear my work clothes soon, I kinda miss wearing heels.
PS: SAIT is like BCIT in Alberta.
Here's something totally off topic, I saw the biggest worm ever the other day while I was coming home from a walk nearby our place. Grosss, but I thought I'd share..kee...
WOW what date is it?
Man talk about laziness, my last post was over two years ago! So much has happened in the past 2 1/2 years or so, where should I start? I think I need some time to gather my thoughts, perhaps a detailed posting tomorrow :P
Anyways, thought I would pick up this blogging thing again (oops, I never did pick it up before) since I've moved to a new city. This would be a good way for peeps to know what I've been up to.
Event of the day: Went in for my first cervical pap test today!!! It was less freaky than I thought, just awkward for the most part. The best thing that came out from this visit? I now have a female family doctor in Calgary, wohooo!!!!!!!!!! Even better, she is within walking distance to where I live, so if I need to see her, I can crawl my way there and probably make it before I die.
This totally makes my day, even better than getting a job! Oh yeah, by the way, I just landed a job!! More about it tomorrow because I'll likely run out of things to write about soon.
